About Elizabeth

Greetings everyone and welcome to My Medical Equipment and Supplies website!

  • Education

Since I can remember, I’ve always felt a passion for helping others; and subsequently I turned my passion to my career. In May 2006 I earned a Bachelors degree in Forensic Psychology from the University of Puerto Rico in Ponce, PR. In August 2013, I earned a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Central Florida in Orlando, FL.

  • Relevant Work Experience

As part of my MSW internship, from 2012-2013 I worked as an MSW Intern with the Care Manager department at an East Orlando inpatient hospital, with patients and their discharge plan. After graduating from my MSW, I started working as a Forensic Mental Health Specialist from August 2013 to April 2015. From April 2015 to the present time, I work as a hospital MSW Social Worker and have worked in several hospital units including ICU, PCU, Med Tele, Med Surg (ortho), Mom & Baby, and NICU. At this time, I am assigned to a med surgical/orthopedic unit (total knees, hips, and shoulders’ replacements) & other surgeries, and part of my responsibilities in the hospital include to coordinate the continuum of care such as ensuring that our patients get their needed medical equipment prior their discharge to home.

  • Speaking of Medical Equipment-Based on my Experience

Over the years I’ve found, it is best when our patients (that have planned procedures) obtain their medical equipment prior to their surgeries as this (between others) will tremendously decrease their discharge time to their homes. However, unfortunately, for numerous reasons, most of our patients will not have their needed medical equipment at the time of their surgery.

Additionally, often times patients do not get approval for their medical equipment due to lack of knowledge in regards the medical criteria from their medical team. Medicare and any managed Medicare plans rules are consistently changing over the years. It is important to maintain up to date information and education in regards these changes.

One of the most important goals of this website is to provide you with resources to obtain your needed medical equipment prior to your surgery. I recommend you discuss with your doctor about your needed equipment; and here I will provide you with the most common medical equipment to help you during your recovery period.

Nevertheless, here I offer you resources, and information about medical supplies for the elder population.

There are several medical conditions that require medical equipment, and supplies, and I hope you find this website helpful.
